Protocol tool

Pearl emission explorer, block by block.

Pearl caps supply at 2.1 billion PRL and shrinks the reward a little with every block, instead of halving it every four years. See the whole curve, then look up any block.

So far blocks have arrived faster than the target: block 131,829 came about 178 days after genesis, an average of 117 seconds per block. Nominal years therefore run ahead of the calendar.

How it’s calculated

One formula, rounded to the grain.

Reward of block h, in grains

floor(S × C ÷ ((h + C) × (h − 1 + C)))

S is the supply in grains (2.1 billion × 100,000,000) and C = 650,226, four years of 194-second blocks. This is CalcBlockSubsidy in the node’s code; block 0 pays nothing.

Issued after h blocks

2,100,000,000 × h ÷ (h + 650,226) PRL

The per-block rewards add up to this, less under one grain of rounding per block.

Transaction fees come on top of the reward and aren’t part of the supply curve.

Things worth noticing

Halving, without the cliff.

  • The first block paid 3,229.64 PRL. A Bitcoin-style schedule with the same cap and rhythm would have paid half that, then dropped in steps.
  • At year 4 the two schedules meet: both pay 807.41 PRL per block, and both have issued exactly half the supply.
  • What remains unissued halves at year 4, again at year 12 and again at year 28: each halving takes twice as long as the last, and none happens overnight.
  • Miners never face a sudden 50% pay cut on one block, which smooths the incentive to keep securing the network.

See how issuance fits the whole design.
